Maxi life sliding door interior trim removal

Post by Papa Bear »

Trying to take the window surround off to paint, need to take the trim around the handle off first and can’t see how.
It comes loose at the top but not the bottom. Tried pushing the lock button down and it won’t go far enough.
Do I need to take the bottom panel off to remove the lock button first or is there an easier trick?
These are the last two trims to paint and it’s P!$$!NG me off!!

If nobody has any ideas (not surprised as most have different door style but worth a try) I’ll be taking the bottom panel off tomorrow as I’m determined to get the painting finished tomorrow

If I remember correctly which was a while ago..
you need to take the bottom of the door trim off and then take the long rod off for the lock button so it drops down then the door handle trim should pull off leaving the lever which is held on with two bolts....

@gary.8, thank you, was hoping there was a trick to it to save having to remove the lower trim. Looks like I’ll have wedge myself into the back seat and pull it apart.

As Gary said, bottom trim off then you’ll be able to remove the top trim.

ELSA Win doesn’t mention taking the rod out though

Once the bottom trim is off, it looks like it’s only 2 clips, 2 & 3 in the image.

Not done it myself though as I don’t have a window in my sliding door

Yeah but he needs to get number 3 trim off from the digram in order to get the rest of window surround trim off... ImageImage

Well that was easy!
Took the bottom panel off using a V trim tool and can’t see the lock button rod. It’s behind a panel and the lock mechanism. Didn’t want to remove all that. Reached around the back with my plate sized hands and could feel the rod :D , has a few bends in it with quite a lot of flex, gave it a tweak and it came down low enough to get the trim off and sprang back after. One off, one to go

yep, I didn't realise till after I bent hell out of rod to get the black trim off. when you put back on don't push down too hard or its harder to get off again if you need to

Oh well, I’ll have that trouble then :D :D
They are back on painted, had to pull the rod and push the button down. Fingers crossed I won’t have to take it off again.
