2012 Maxi Life cruise control and MFSW retrofit...

Post by RatFink »

So, got a Caddy and want customise it tastefully to improve creature comforts and drivability, as most of us seem to... ;)
It's a 2012 Caddy Maxi Life 1.6tdi that's already been remapped to 138bhp by previous owner, but more for economy.
First up is to add cruise control and a multi-function steering wheel to make my life a bit more manageable while on the job (and maintain no points on my license), but plan on probably doing a fair bit to it as I'm a window cleaner and my van is my office.

Mine appears to be a midline(?) having a 5K0-953-549-C steering wheel control module, with the multifunction display controls on the wiper stalk.
Am I right in thinking I need a 5K0-953-549-E squib complete with stalks for cruise control and a mk6 golf steering wheel for the MFD controls?
Will any mk6 golf MFSW work with this, or do I need a specific wheel?
Is there any additional parts/wiring needed for the MFSW headunit controls?

I have OBD11, but no idea if it can be coded through that yet, but can probably borrow a mates VCDS to have a crack at coding it. Unless anyone knows of anyone useful at the coding side in west Cornwall?
Any help massively appreciated, as this is my first Caddy. :D

Maybe I just need to post a few more times so's I can peruse the "how to" section!

May just bite the bullet and buy the squib and wheel, but confirmation would be nice.

Have ordered them, and will have a go me thinks.
VCDS coding looks not too bad so will borrow a mates, or might even get one for myself tbh.
First of many mods, only owned it a week...

I fitted cruise control into my 2013 Caddy with very similar initial specs to yours by the sound of it.
I used the same 5K0-953-549-E squib with 5K0-953-513-M stalks. I don't know what MFSW code was but it was from a mk7 Golf or similar. All the parts fitted together and steering wheel controls worked with the MFD and radio straight away with no extra coding or wiring. If you're fitting a MFSW with cruise controls I believe this needs additional wiring (check that first but think that is why I went for stalk controls). Now I've fitted an android auto/car play headunit even the voice command button functions. The Ross-Tech site has a lot of really useful lists of part numbers for what will and won't work together

This setup still has cruise control on the stalks, but also adds steering wheel functions, just as it would have come from factory on the highline, so hoping it works the same as yours, but just asking around about VCDS atm. Might have to bite the bullet and buy one myself, but if it does work like yours did, I might not need it...

Sorry, not clear, I did have to get the cruise control coded but not the MFSW. Whilst getting the cruise coded also had a few other things added so no idea of cost on this

Ah, good to know. Think I'm gonna buy a VCDS and code it myself, be handy to have. Not my first time playing with reprograming, just not VAG, and kind of like the challenge.

Got home from work tonight and fitted it, coded it, which took a bit of tinkering, but got there, and now have cruise control working!
Although it doesn't seem all the controls on the right of the wheel work 100%. Up, down, and OK are fine (same controls as would have been on the stalk), but not the two side buttons or the return button. Only work with the full MFD from the highline? Gonna have to look into that.
First mod to my caddy complete... now what?
Thinking of getting rid of the junk kenwood headunit and fitting a RCD360 clone so I can actually use the MFSW controls with android auto.

What stalks would be needed if you wanted the trip button on the right stalk on a 2013? 5K0-953-513-M only has CC on the left, but no button on the right to control the MFD.

Would it be the one piece 5K0953502N, or is it two individual stalks?
