You'll get there, seems like a lot of electric gremlins. Wonder if your loom is damaged somewhere

I think it may be, the sparks reckons there are some anomalous earthing points on the van. I think it may have been messed with in the past.

So Car Sparks has given me the pictures as below:

Now I'm not 100% sure on this as a google search gives me a return for Indicator stalks and i was sure i was after a squib ring.

any ideas?

You need to click on the [Advanced ID] to get the actual SWCM part number, the number for the complete stalk set will work but you won't need the complete stalks and SWCM.

I'd bet on it being a 5K0-953-569 SWCM due to your caddy being 2014 without MFSW.

Thanks Doc,

The only function on the steering wheel is.... steering!

I'll give VW a call and spunk £400 on the part then...

So i haven't had much chance to revisit this until today.

I phoned up VW and tried to get a 5K0 953 521 DK and it doesn't exist. they were somewhat vague about it which didn't fill me with confidence.

So asked about the 5K0-953-569 as per Doc's suggestion and they have that part but as 5K0-953-569 AF

Now i'm assuming this is correct and its maybe a replacement part? I think the van I have is maybe an example of 'end of an era, facelift model about to be released, use any part out of the parts bin'

So I've texted car sparks guy to confirm as its a £409 part and its 'special order' whatever that entails and can't be returned.

OK so just ordered the part 5K0-953-569 AL...

It seems the AF Part has been superseded.

Hopefully that is now correct, especially as its a £409 nonreturnable part.

So....

Got the part I needed, Sparks is coming tomorrow. From the photo's he is saying its the right part, lets hope so.

also managed to get hold of some VW Pinto wheels which are for me the best looking standard wheels.

Mr Car Sparks has been and gone.

the new squib ring has been coded and fitted and now the steering wheel sensor(?) has been sorted so now i have no error codes.

Sadly this hasn't actually fixed anything else. i am led to believe the Body Control Module is at fault.

Now at least i can buy a second hand one of these so it shouldn't cost me too much to sort (they're about £50 on ebay)

The labour for the fitting cost me £220 so I'm expecting that again plus the part.

Thansk to @doc for the info on the squib ring, his info was spot on and i at least haven't wasted £409.

Ordered a Body control module, fairly cheap off eBay, about £35 in the end which is a lot better than £409 for the squib ring.

I'm guessing i'll still get humped on labour for the fitting but you can't have it all!

I was going to change the dashboard at the same time as mine has damage on it, couple of the vents are shite and there's a big hole at the back where i'm guessing some sort of tracking thing was fitted. (ex fleet van) The removal of this has taken the windscreen as well which needs doing at some point.

I still haven't got access to a lot of the site so I'm not 100% on the details for the dashboard removal. does anyone have one for sale or any specific advice?

Got the van back and working. The final bill was £360 in the end and I lost the van for the weekend.

the only thing i haven't managed to sort is the front washer. the wiper goes but i can't hear the motor. The rear works but no good on the front.

Need to sort some seats out for it. they're looking very shabby now.

also sorted the odd radio thing out. There is a cable in the loom that will remove the switched or permanent live. you either have it connected to itself (draws about 0.6a) or unplug it (draws about (0.2a) the difference between the 2 means it will refuse to start after about 3 days if not used instead of a couple of weeks.

Whilst i fear i'm talking to myself...

My drivers door speaker was playing up. as per the below:

Image

So i bought a kit off eBay, £50 JVC jobbys and some plastic cup things.

Image

Image

First things first, door card off. not too bad a job, 2 screws at the bottom of the card, 2 screws either side of the door handle and then carefully tease it off from the bottom.

Image

Old speaker was mounted with rivets so i had to drill those out, 5MM metal drill bit.

Image

Then there may be easier ways to this but i ground the rivet down to flat with a dremel and then used a hammer and bradawl to pop the last bit of rivet out.

The fitting of the new speakers involved mounting the new speaker into the platic holder wossname.

Image

The kit was a bit light on screws so i got these self rippers to put into the plastic, To be fair anything would have done, these are what i happened to have handy, probably overkill for what they do.

Now th issue i had next was the wiring was all behind the speaker but the connectors were all at the front. so i had to drill a hole in the top of the platic wossname to pass the wiring through.

Image

Image

so i could plug the speaker wire back into the loom. I bought the kit as they have these clips which are female to the ones in the van meaning i didn't have to start cutting the wiring.

After that the holes in the wossname were the same as on the removed speaker and they riveted back in. For some inexplicable reason i have no photos of the speakers back in place, but they are and theyre working.

also dont forget to reconnect the door handle, id never have done that...

I have posted these on another thread but for the reasons of completeness...

the front leathers in situ:

Image

The seats also had a saft table effort, someone will use them. maybe:

Image

i also got this trim piece off the car that had been mocking me with its absence:

Image

If anyone has a part number for this fuse box cover effort id be obliged. i have the one of the touran but the fit is ever so slightly different.

Image

small thing but i got both of the door reflectors as well:

Image

But i forgot about this piece:

Image

All in all not bad.
