Possible fluid leaking from engine bay mk4

Post by Cgiorgi »

Hi guys
Does anyone know what this fluid could be?
The coolant reservoir is full (and red!) and the brake fluid reservoir looks full. Van came back from service yesterday so worried they might have stuffed up something.
We could not see anything obvious in the engine bay leaking.

Diesel, engine oil, gearbox oil, screen wash, adblue, I can't think of any other fluids you would have in the engine bay. Best check them all. Gearbox will be the most difficult so leave that until last unless you can rule it out on visual inspection.

Thanks Doc , its a tsi, so no diesel, adblue and washer fluid was almost clear. Wondering if it was a fuel leak now, van is only 2 years only but i suppose anything could happen. Not sure if i should risk driving it back or just get it towed now

Does it smell like petrol? With the cost of fuel these days, I'd hope it's not.
Is there any smell from the spillage? How does it react if you pour water on top of the spill?

Haha yeah fuel is crazy now! Unfortunately it wasn't me driving it, it was one of my company vans which one of my workers is driving and he didn't check for smell so I'm now left to sort it out :( Could transmission fluid have that slight green colour?

Yes.
You could have a cracked box or a drive shaft pulled out.
It needs to be up on a ramp really.
Somthing leaking that much should show somthing up on the dash quite quickly.
