Uh oh, now we're all limted to 50mph on a-roads in our Caddy

I just had a letter from VW this morning, saying that the DVLA was reclassifying the Caddy 2K from a car-derived van, to a panel van, meanig they are all now limited by law to 50mph on A-roads, 60 on dual carriageways and 70 on motorways.

Not over the moon about that, anyone else had one too ?

I read this on another forum some time ago so i just copied it to here.It makes me think that there is something more to this change of car derived van to panel van.

So the Government has launched a study into 'white vans' and their usage etc...

"Areas to be examined include: how the market is regulated; the likely future growth and changes that could impact that growth; the congestion, road safety and environmental implications of such growth and possible steps to counter Co2 emissions." - And that confirms it... they're looking for something else to tax in the name of penguin killing globalclimatewarmingchange, someone else to mug some extra cash from... It's a dressing up exercise to justify what they really want by the look of it. So expect some trumped up new tax on brand new vans, higher congestion charges and tolls for them where they apply, and of course, higher road tax for them How stoopid do they think we are? Why dress it all up in all this crap? Why not just be honest and say we want more money, we've been thinking of ways to get it, and someone said what about an extra tax on vans? Great idea we said, and we can use the environment as the excuse too - result!

Yeah, but remember at the moment all you really need to worry about is the increasingly rare Plod with Speed Guns who know what you're driving and your speed.

Gatso (the flashing ones) use radar and can differentiate between Cars/Vans and HGVs, but not between cars and vans, so essentially car limits apply.

Truvelo (forward-facing ones) use loops embedded in the road so they can't differentiate between anything.

SPECS/Average Speed is an odd one. You'd have thought that ANPR would mean that they know what you're in, but I've sat at 70 on the A14 (Dual-Carriageway) same as everyone else and not got done. Though admittedly the last time I did this was about a week before all these letters came out.
