Hi all,
I've recently had an issue where the van has a clonk when pulling away, but only when you give it some beans. sometimes when accellorating hard in 1st and 2nd. also some times when accelorating and catch a pot hole etc.
after owning french cars I instantly thought "driveshafts" so got under, theres play in both, neither are excessively tight or loose. I did have an issue about 3 months ago when the bottom engine/gearbox mounting bolt sheered off, this was replaced with a 10.8 rated bolt and torqued apropriately.. could this be connected?
I've had it on a ramp, put a prybar on all the engine mounts, whishbone mounts etc but cannot find any play. I wonder if it may be the exhaust manifold, as in standard form there is a support strap to the gearbox from the cat whereas with the 6 speed I couldn't find the correct bracket to make this work, so maybe the exhaust clonking?
It is hard to tell exactly where the noise comes from, but I have a feeling that its comming from around where the rear engine mount bolts to the body.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Many Thanks
Daniel

Re: clonk when pulling away
Before Igot to the 'engine mounts' bit, i thought, 'engine mounts'! Whetherit's the engine itself clonking or something attached to the engine because of excessive play. Kinda of hard to say without being there with you, to give everything a good wiggle!
Hope you get it sorted mate!
