Just starting a new post as we were having a little conversation in the puddle light thread . Sean at a guess I would say my bcm on my gas’s van is the same as yours I will post a pic tomorrow, but didn’t you have fogs on your previous bumper ? . Another thing I noticed and may not be related to the bcm is a simple needle sweep that I think looks quite cool , I can’t code it as it says error channel not found , how much of a job is it to change/code/ upgrade a bcm ?

Unless your BCM is 085, there is zero gain from upgrading it (eg. 086 to 087). In any case, it's fairly non-trivial, but procedure goes:
- Save coding from current BCM
- Install new BCM
- Copy coding from previous BCM
- Pair remote key fobs
- Take BCM out of 'factory' mode
The needle sweep is an adaptation of the instrument cluster, has nothing to do with BCM.

Firstly needle sweep is defined by the version / level of your cluster not the bcm mate
If you’ve got a 085 version bcm then you deffo need an upgrade to a 086 or 087 highline for oem fogs
Can be picked up cheap off eBay and relatively easy to swap and code, as always. Save a copy of your existing bcm coding
EDIT: anon beat me to it

I didn’t think needle sweep was anything to do with bcm , in general everything in the gas’s vans is gonna be startline , but some of the lads that own gas vans have managed to get needle sweep, I’ve just purchased Ross-Tech’s cable and I’m just dipping my toes at the minute , did heated seats and somehow coming home lights

reading between the lines it’s not always clear cut in the wording what activates what if that makes sense, please be gentle with me on the coding and adapting side of things , I’ve been spannering for 25 years and done some fault code reading but adapting and re coding is very new to me and some others on here , and being above 50 yrs takes a bit longer to take it all in

. Thanks people .

Can you swap a bcm with vcds?
@peely the fogs I had in my other bumper weren’t OEM.
I want OEM for turning lights but if it’s not straight forward I don’t think I will do it

Yes mate you can with VCDS , just looking at the bcm,s on eBay all 85’s for caddy’s but there is an 86 for a golf mk6 but don’t now if they interchangeable , I would also like oem fogs , have you tried doing the needle sweep mate . ?

@ Anoneamus
- Save coding from current BCM
- Install new BCM
- Copy coding from previous BCM
- Pair remote key fobs
- Take BCM out of 'factory' mode
Is that for new one or all bcm ?
To pair remote key fobs do I need VCP?
Will a 5k bcm work on a 2k caddy?

'Factory' mode step is for new BCMs. All other steps are for all BCMs. You can do everything with VCDS, I don't know, but I expect you probably could with VCP as well. Only Caddy BCMs will work on Caddy. Not Touran, not Golf, not anything else, unless you want to do serious rewiring of your car.

You can have needle sweep in any caddy cluster since 2011 on nec + 24c32/64 eeprom by simple change in eep.

Mine is 2011 , could you explain a bit more detail as I am a novice , I’ve been told it can’t be done by VCDS , so is this another system or different binicle or what , thank you
