How does the ecu recognise gears? And what's different about later ecu and older type?

apparently it compares road speed to engine RPM. I asked the same question.

ECU might not "know" which gear but it will have RPM v's speed curve.
Try knocking it out of gear without clutching, I'll guarantee the cruise will turn off.

My caddy 2004 2.0 SDI BDJ engine factory made with 5th gear. I did gear swap to 6th, ECU is not remap (only 51Kw) , but accept coding for 6th gear.

ECU must know gear ratio - to - rpm speed - to engine load / toque.

if something is abnormal - ccs is OFF
Imagine a car with 60 Mph / 800rpm (technically possible) but abnormal for ECU
Some ECUs require 7th gear ratio coding, because must understand ratio/speed/load on 7th,

Definitely correct as doc says, my clutch slipped going up a steep motorway hill and the second it started the ccs knocked off because revs high and speed didn't rise

Yeh we know the ECU needs to know the fact 6 speed is fitted, otherwise it wouldnt have coding for it, what i need to know is what ECUs and software versions work/ take the 6 speed coding on a 2007 van?

It runs LIN software 1.3

And the CC code you need is 11463 I think off hand

Everything was already installed and working, just not CC in 6th!!!!!!

The ECU wont accept coding for 6 speed.

So we need a software update, but im asking what ECU and software versions work......

I think your missing the point northern8019, some people can't have it working because the engine ecu doesn't accept 6th gear coding because it's not built into its software, you like me and some others were lucky that ours did

hi, did you solve your problem with coding for 6 speed gearbox? how? i have exactly that same problem after swap from 5 to 6 speed gearbox.

I don´t have a caddy but i had the very same problem on my Golf mk5 1.9TDI BXE engine after a 6 speed Gearbox conversion and the solution was to downgrade the OEM ECU from 03G906021KH /03G906021AN 9245 Revision :H06 to 03G906021KH /03G906021AN 8984 Revision:H02,

I have the same problem. I have 2.0 BSX engine with cng and petrol. I retrofited 5 gears to 6 gears. With red maxidot cruise control worked fine in all gears, but now I put some black & white instrument cluster and I don't have cruise control in 6th gear. I will attach bellow the HW and SW I have now
