Knocking through the clutch?

Post by KarWerx »

Ive only had my van a fortnight, its a 57 plate Tdi.

When i press my clutch very lightly, just enough until the biting point i can feel a slight knocking through my clutch pedal. Is this normal?

It does this whilst in motion as you just find the biting point.

It's only slight but it wasn't there when I bought it. I've got a vw warranty. Should I use it or wait

If you've got warranty then use it. No reason not to. Its not 'normal' for it to knock.

just a slight vibration thro the pedal. Its as i change gear. I guess it could be the clutch release bearing.

Ive read that this part isnt covered under the VW warranty for cars, so im guessing that its the same on the commercial warranty.

Whats the costs involved here, is it an easy job? Is it worth putting in a new clutch?

Yeah, you are right come to think of it. Not covered. Done a couple of clutches in the past but never on a caddy. Quite long jobs requiring 2 people unless you've got a fully kitted out workshop. You have to take the transmission off which will be heavy! You need a ramp or a pit too.

The part is like 30-40 but its the hassle of doing it without proper ramp and kit.

This is an unexpected cost as i have just bought the van, however im not too bothered as i planned to uprate the clutch at some point in preperation for a remap.

I want to keep costs to a minimum. What bits do i need to change while im at it.
