AC retrofit

I’m starting to look into doing an A/C retrofit on my 2012 1.6 and was just curious what people have used as donors.

Obviously, another Caddy would be ideal, but is it possible to make parts from a Touran or Golf work instead?

There's a 10 page thread discussion covering AC retrofit in Electrical and Lighting sub-forum but unfortunately if I link it you won't be able to see it. It was a thread started by TommyZoom and he used a Caddy Maxi as donor.

However, further along in the thread a post by The_Evil says the following:

"Well, MK3 and MK4 Caddies should be compatible in all their parts.
There are also many other VAG cars that use the same, for example the Golf or Touran.
Before starting, I found and bought a Golf 7 Climatic airbox, just to have a "plan B", and it was identical to the Climatronic one I had took from a Caddy donor."

Hi Kobat,

Thank you for the reply mate, yeah that’s definitely helped. It’s given me a better idea of where to start. Is there a lot more info in that discussion on this? Shame I can’t view it, correct me if I’m wrong, for now there’s no more upgrades?

There are photos and details about Tommy's installation, and then a bit of discussion. Tommy is still on here from time to time. But I don't know if you can even PM him to ask the basics.

Correct, there are no upgrades and there haven't been for nearly two years. Only Doc can do them and he's MIA.
