A night of having it crammed into the workshop replacing the vinyl with some new 6D stuff. A few burnt fingers that’s for sure Image

What did you do to your van today?

I got my rear calipers off and prepped them for paint. Unfortunately I found on of the seals had gone. I don’t fancy doing this myself so I’m going take take it to my local garage. So I’m at a dead stop at the moment.
Image
I don’t think I damaged it, but then it wasn’t leaking fluid when it was on the van so I probably did. Image

EDIT: I’ve now realised that this is a dust seal. God I’ve got a lot to learn!! Image

These aren't too hard to do yourself and parts are cheap too!

@van life, yeah I’ve seen these bud. The mechanic I go to reckons a lot of them can be poor fits and leak soon after. He did himself out of a job by telling me that (as I don’t feel confident enough to do it myself)
So I’m sure he’s not putting me on a bum steer.
I’m sure there’s a load of people who’ve had no problems though. I just don’t want to spend time painting my caliper to have problems soon after.

Swan - I've done 3 pairs using kits from biggred and they've all been spot on. Calipers have been on for years without any issues and still going strong. I'm planning to do my Caddy ones soon.

Fair dos mate. I just don’t feel confident enough to have a go. I’m not too worried though as a new caliper is only £40 more than the garage quoted to rebuild.
Maybe one day I’ll have a crack myself, but for now I’ll take your word for it

Definitely take the old one apart if you can. You'll see how simple calipers are then and hopefully have the confidence next time.
