Door latch stuck in closed position.

I own a 2010 VW Caddy. It's -5C in the mornings where I live, and sometimes once I open the driver's door it won't close again until the car is sufficiently heated. Well this morning I was running late and getting impatient and started fiddling with the latch. I ended up closing the latch so it was in the position as if the door was closed and now I can't open it again. I have seen a few videos saying to open the door handle and manually flip the latch over but this simply does not work for me. I have de-iced it, lubricated it, and heated the car up (as much as I can in this weather) and it still doesn't work. Are Caddy's different in some way, or is there another method I can use? Any help is appreciated.
