Create an error/fault code for OBD Checks
Hi, Is there a simple way to create an error code? to check that an OBD reader is working as expected

Maybe you could unplug the MAF sensor briefly? Not 100% sure on this to be honest.
EDIT the above suggestion is much better!

Thanks anoneamus and the swan fiend, interestingly I have a dashlight warning on because I have LED bulbs instead of filament bulbs for the DRL's, but I'm not seeing anything with my OBD reader.

Are you doing an auto-scan? That should show a diagnostic issue, but haven't tested that. If you disconnect a door module, it definitely will.

Re: Create an error/fault code for OBD Checks
You haven't mentioned what you have. If it's a generic OBD reader, then you only going to get a generic ODB codes from the engine management. Sometimes it may point you to the right direction, but not much use of it to be honest.

Re: Create an error/fault code for OBD Checks
Apologies for the late reply. I have a generic OBD scanner and I am scanning for errors but nothing shows up.
Maybe I should buy a better one, any recommendations?

Re: Create an error/fault code for OBD Checks
With a generic one you have to create an error to engine management, for instance unplug the MAF or something else that directly affect engine work. As I said before, generic OBD scanner only picks up a generic engine error codes, it does not communicate to the rest of your vehicle.
VCDS is quite user friendly and a good tool to have. Few members using OBDeleven and happy with it. Just don't buy a fake copies.
