Subframe Bush Tool

Post by bert682 »

Hi all!

Had a collapsed bush on my subframe / gearbox mount and have found various mention online of a "tool" that simplifies this job. I called my local dealer and they confirmed the existence of said "tool" but they don't have it and was nearly £800 for the work.

My local mechanic who was doing the job for me just called me to say he broke the surround when trying to press it in!

Is this "tool" just the generic version like THIS or is there a fancy VW one?

This is to replace part 1K0199867Q, as shown on the parts diagram

Tah

parts diagram: link doesn't work. Ah yes, now it does. Just a question of whether it's the right size.

Before I just used a hammer to get them out and a jack and metal frame to get them in (also goes with rubber mallet and a bit of patience). Now I have a set of dies (metal discs of different sizes and use a jack and frame). Sometimes a whole 3rd party wishbone or assembly is only a bit more expensive

What's your engine size and code, model, year?

yea, it's geoblocked.

VW shows a 'kit' (steel or aluminium subframe) - tools numbers:
1 - Thrust piece for removal - VAS 6779-1-
2 - Tube - VAS 6779-4-
3 - Thrust piece - VAS 6779-5-
4 - Hydraulic press - VAS 6178- with thrust piece - T10205/13-
5 - Hexagon nut - VAS 6779-3-
6 - Threaded spindle - VAS 6779-2-

But you should be able to get it out /in with a jack and the right size 'die'
(I eventually bought a kit like this one on amazon "Pressure Piece Drive Set Bearing Shells" and use it for many bearings / things - if you get one, get the biggest set you can afford as they are often useful if you're into DIYing)

Interesting, although I've replaced them I've never actually seeen them wear out. I would also check the engine /gearbox mountings and subframe bolts. Maybe the subframe was taken off before and the 'TFT' (stretch) bolts were not renewed?
